Dame Patricia Routledge visits her old school

Staff and pupils at Birkenhead High School Academy were delighted to welcome one of their most famous past pupils back to school on Friday 9th November. Dame Patricia Routledge has been supporting the Wilfred Owen Commemoration events throughout the Birkenhead area all week, including a poetry workshop attended by all of their Year 7 pupils with the Read Now, Write Now organisation.

Dame Patricia told some wonderful tales about her time at school, including time spent in their air raid shelters during the war. Girls studying music and drama were also privileged to be given advice from Dame Patricia and also tips about developing their confidence and resilience. She was very impressed at the school’s commitment to supporting the arts and enjoyed seeing the state of the art theatre space and facilities.
