Putney High celebrates award winning teaching

Putney High School celebrated as Mrs Pippa Gilbert (née Wadey) was named a Silver Award Winner of The Pearson National Teaching Awards, in the Teacher of the Year in a Secondary School category.

As Director of Learning, Research and Outreach as well as being Teacher of Religious Studies, Mrs Gilbert represented Putney at the UK final – an event known as the ‘Oscars for teachers’ and televised by the BBC.

She said “My love for my job comes from the amazing girls that I teach – they make me laugh every day, give me energy, never fail to surprise me and always go above and beyond in whatever I ask of them. It is because of them that I can call my job the best in the world.”

In addition, three other Putney High School teachers were awarded Certificates of Excellence:

Outstanding New Teacher of the Year – Miss Hannah Lovell (Biology Teacher)

Excellence in Special Needs Teaching – Ms Justyna Sokolowska (Head of Learning Enrichment)

Teacher of the Year in a Primary School – Mrs Ena Burgess (Junior School Director of Music).
