Sheffield High girls achieve half of all A-levels at grades A*-A
Sheffield High School for Girls celebrated a 100% pass rate and an outstanding set of results today with students, parents and teachers.
Every student who sat A-level exams at Sheffield Girls’ passed all their subjects and almost one third received straight A*-A results. An amazing 90% of students were awarded grades A*-C, with 75% gaining A*-B and 52% of entries were awarded a A*-A grade, up 5% on last year. Seventy one percent of all students achieved at least one grade A.
Subject highlights include:
- 100% grade A*-A in Drama
- 100% grade A*-B in Geography
- 90% grade A*-B in Art
- 86% grade A*-B in Geology
- 86% grade A*-B in Maths
- 83% grade A*-B in Spanish
- 83% grade A*-B in English Language
- 80% grade A*-B in Chemistry
- 80% grade A*-B in PE
Almost all students studied the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), which allows students to research a topic in depth ahead of university. Almost 75% achieved the top grades A*-A.
Sheffield Girls’ Sixth Form students will now go on to study a range of subjects from Classics at the University of Birmingham to Economics at University of Nottingham, Politics at the University of Newcastle, Law at the University of Edinburgh, History at the University of Oxford, Psychology at the University of Manchester and Veterinary Science at Cambridge University. Eleven pupils, over 10% of the year group, will go on to study Medicine at a variety of destinations including Newcastle and Dundee.
Speaking about the results, Headmistress Valerie Dunsford said:
“This is a fantastic set of results to see in my final year at the school. To be able to say that every pupil who sat the A-level exams passed is a wonderful achievement and a credit to the staff and pupils who have worked so hard over the last two years.
“This year we are seeing even more students secure their first choice place at university and we are seeing a real breadth and diversity of undergraduate subjects from the traditional courses like Veterinary Science, Law and Medicine to Japanese, Politics, Mechanical Engineering and International Relations.
“Sheffield Girls’ primary aim is to ensure all pupils realise their potential. These students have grasped every opportunity they have been given and we hope this gives them the platform to go on and achieve even greater things throughout their careers and lives.
“I am enormously proud of them all and wish them the all the best for their future studies.”
