Following the publication of excellent A-Level results today, with Maths and Geography grades topping the table, students at Wimbledon High School are heading to a range of fascinating university courses. Mathematicians, English specialists, Lawyers, Social scientists and Aeronautical Engineers amongst the students heading to their futures from Wimbledon High School today.

Fionnuala Kennedy, Head of Wimbledon High School, said:

“If ever there were a testament to resilience, determination and the power of focused endeavour, that testament is to be found within this year’s A-Level results achieved by our brilliant cohort of 2022. After two years of turbulence and challenge they have collectively achieved magnificent scores and individually done themselves enormously proud.

“We are particularly delighted to see excellence in Maths and Further Maths with two thirds of our candidates achieving the top grade (no sign of our girls ‘not liking the hard Maths’ here at Wimbledon High…); and, in the context of a well-documented decline nationally in English Literature, it is also heartening to see the arts alive and well in SW19, with a similar percentage of our grades at A* in both English and Classics.

“We know, too, that our students are not only academically successful, they are also keen to go out into the world to make a difference and we are delighted to see large numbers gain their first choice places to study medicine, social and natural sciences, law and politics. These are young people who combine sharp intellect with fierce compassion and they stride out from our school with our respect and admiration.

“And on behalf of our students, thank you to everyone – subject teachers and pastoral leaders, exam officers and staff behind the scenes, in helping smooth their journey during these difficult past few years.”

The collective results contain exceptional academic achievements by individual students, with a Team GB athlete heading to Birmingham to study Medicine, a top Mathematician choosing Spacecraft Engineering at Southampton, a keen environmentalist bound for Cambridge to read Natural Sciences, and one of our Politics students choosing a Law Degree Apprenticeship to ensure she comes away debt free from her studies.
