Autumn Term 2023 has been another jam-packed term for our GDST nurseries and prep schools! From all of the wonderful events and initiatives (too many to cover them all here), to some very impressive awards & prizes, and, of course, our annual Junior Christmas Card competition – we are so proud of our students, teachers and support staff. So here’s our GDST Round Up of what happened at our nurseries and prep schools during Autumn 2023.
Sustainable Initiatives and Successes
The GDST is dedicated to being as sustainable as possible. We understand it is the next generation who will help to create a greener and better future. Earlier this year, over 150 Y6 pupils from 22 GDST schools completed a Changing Climates Curriculum – a GDST-wide eco project piloted to great success. In November 2023 – to mark COP28 – we published our GDST We Are One film
Portsmouth High School won two sustainability awards with EduCCate Global. Five members of staff have completed training equipping them with further sustainability-related skills and knowledge to apply through the curriculum. The EduCCate Global Bronze Award makes the school a centre of excellence for sustainability and climate literacy.
Wellbeing, Kindness and Partnerships
We have long recognised the importance of taking a proactive approach to psychological health in our students and staff. Throughout the year we run a number of events and initiatives to highlight important issues like kindness, wellbeing and -partnerships.
In November 2023, over 150 students, including many from GDST partner state schools, took part in Anti-Bullying-Ambassadors training sessions run by The Diana Award and hosted by Royal High School Bath.
Awards and Prizes
When it came to awards and prizes, Autumn 2023 was a brilliant term for our nursery and prep schools and we are so excited to share some of their successes. Sheffield Girls’ Infant and Juniors were recognised by The Independent Schools of the Year Awards for their exemplary character education.
Bromley High School Junior School were hailed Neurodiversity Champions in the nasen Awards for exemplifying collaborative efforts and engaging diverse stakeholders to create environments that are embracing and nurturing for everyone, irrespective of their abilities, backgrounds, or circumstances.
Notting Hill & Ealing Juniors opened the doors to their carbon-neutral development – groundbreaking in terms of how it will provide inside/outside learning opportunities in an eco-friendly building.
Junior Christmas Card competition
Every year, Junior pupils across our family of schools get into the festive spirit by designing brilliant Christmas cards as part of our annual GDST-wide competition. See the 2023 Junior Christmas Card competition entries and winners.
